We have overcome many of the
obstacles associated with previous travel guitars. The Rambler
tunes like a regular guitar using standard strings. The tuners
are easily accessible at the end of the body (not buried in the
middle). We use expensive locking tuners, specially designed
humbuckers, and a solid Canadian Maple body. The Strobel is
designed and built to be a "main" axe; that happens to come
apart and fits in a briefcase. And it stays in tune after you
assemble it - neck attachment is similar to a four bolt
Stratocaster - it doesn't move.
Even assembled, the Rambler is
less than 29-1/2" long, even though it has a standard 24-1/2"
(Gibson) scale length. The guitar feels, sounds and plays like
an expensive Les Paul or Strat." Source: Russ Strobel, email

The P1 Papoose was the first
guitar model made by Tacoma. It was designed by Terry Atkins and
George Gruhn. It has a relatively short 19.1" scale and is tuned
to "A" rather than the conventional "E", making it equivalent to
a conventional guitar with a capo on the fifth fret. Source:
