The label in my instruments always has the date (month and year)
of manufacture - nowadays it is in the format of 07-08 and is
preceded by a number denoting the total instruments to date.
Each instrument also has it's

I was trained at Leeds college of
music for 1998 -2002 ND and HND in music instrument repair and
manufacture under Ted Lee a great man from the local area.
At present I work repairing
instruments and when I find the time I make instruments all are
one off bespoke instruments mostly of my own design but I do
some custom building work, I do however have a patented design
of guitar I am looking to take to market soon that I am hopping
to base a new company around that will have a date system and
all the other bits. "[Source: Philip Porter, email, 3/6/2010] |

Poulsen Guitars |
2002-2009? |
Eric Poulsen started woodworking
in 1987 in a small, high end cabinet shop. He continued there
for four years, returned to college to study studio art and
mathematics. In 1994 he was offered a position by Richard
Hoover, at Santa Cruz Guitar company. He started in the neck
department, learning all aspects of that particular job,
including inlay and neck carving. Eventually he was promoted to
department supervisor, and in 1998 to shop foreman, a position
he held until leaving SCGC in 2002 to start his own shop.
2006 base price was $4,200 USD

"I
delivered my first guitar in July of 2000...the first 3 were
made in Michigan, the next 10 in Tennessee, and now we've
relocated (hopefully for the last time) to Mississippi...Olive
Branch to be more specific...although each top is signed and
dated on the underside, of the 13, only the 10th is numbered (on
the headstock as an "X" inlay)...if one needed to know where a
particular guitar fell in line, he'd need to contact me and get
the info...now that I'm in the new shop, all guitars from August
forward will be numbered and dated on the headblock
label...electrics will be numbered and dated in the neck pickup
cavity" [Source: Larry Presnall, email 31/7/2008 ] |

"they select
the woods Canadian maple (but we don't grow mahogany here) ,
ship it to Korea and (could be the Sammik factory?) build the
blanks. They finish them in Vancouver with American parts ( some
from Stew Mac) , (Grovers are built in China though I think, not
positive).
But the pups
are American SD. I just bought a NYS Standard with P90's

Profile
 |
|
Profile brand is seen on electric
and acoustic guitars.
At
Guitarsite there is a claim that
Profile is a low end Kaman/Ovation brand.
Profile guitars were made between the mid 80's
and late 80's in Japan. According to the Guru's Guitar Guide
they were a quality copy of Fenders and Gibsons
[Source:
Guitarsite]
From
www.guitargear.net.au
In the 70's an Australian guitar shop sent some authentic
fenders to a company in Japan to make exact replicas. What they
send back were guitars that were as good as any fender on the
market for about 1/2 the price. They called them "Profiles"
because the headstock profile was copied exactly. Now
unfortunately towards the end of their production a
lot of the models were made using ply bodies and bad
quality components.

Puglisi, Reale & Figli |
|
The Puglisi
family has started to build musical instruments in Catania
(Sicily) since 1820. Giuseppe(G.) Reale was born in 1852 and was
the son of a piano and organ builder. In 1880 he has founded one
of the largest Italian factories for manufacturing bowed and
plucked string instruments. After 1906 the firm`s name appears
already as "G. Puglisi Reale i Figli(o)". Figli(o) means "sons"
in Italian. The sons are Concetto Puglisi and Michelangelo
Puglisi. Michelangelo Puglisi ran the workshop successfully
after 1909 and his son Salvatore also played a part in this.
They were active makers of fine violins (mainly), bows, strings,
guitars, mandolins and unique cellos. Unfortunately the factory
was destroyed during WWII by bombardment in 1943. Although it
was rebuilt and some noted instruments were built after this
time, many of the original Puglisi family susbsequently migrated
from Sicily to USA, Canada and Australia. After Salvatore`s
death his son-in-law Buccheri took over the factory. Before he
died he gave all the factory tools to Alfredo Privitera, who
established the Privitera company in 1962, which makes the
instruments like Puglisi used to make. The Privitera factory
still exists in Catania and is located on "Via Scuto Costarelli".
