Phoenix Amplification

Phoenix Amplification by British Music Strings Limited.

British Music Strings (a London string maker) was founded in 1918. a London string maker [Source: Vintage Drum Guide]

I came across this 1977 Phoenix Valve Pre Guitar Amplifier on eBay:  Perspex front.  These were endorsed by Ritchie Blackmore and were made in the United Kingdom.

It has a Valve Pre stage matched with a solid state amplifier, there is an AUX control which either hints at it having an aux circuit for adding effects.

Phoenix Amplification

Based in Winnipeg, Canada, Phoenix Amplification started out in 2002 as a custom guitar pedal service, servicing and building effects pedals. Run by Nishant Balakrishnan, the company has now expanded to build custom analog solutions for musicians, and has several lines of quality hand-built amps and effects. Pritchard amps have been made since 2002 in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, USA.

"Eric Pritchard is the founder, owner, and manufacturer. I have degrees in mathematics and electrical engineering. I also have more patents in the amplifier arts than any company. And these patents have the advantage of actually producing great tone.

My greatest influence was finding that engineering had made a bad assumption which adversely affected the way they approached guitar amps -- the electronics were not supposed to part of the art.

I began my seach in 1988. At that time a tube engineer said that at the end of his career the biggest problem was obtaining sutiable materials to make tubes. Today, with the advent of the flat panel displays, there are no big markets for low current tube materials. The tube market is disappearing for lack of supplies. My amps can fill the gap with better tone, lighter weight, and greater reliability.

Pritchard Amps are assembled by hand, although some compents are machine made. The cabinets are substantially hand built.

Pritchard Amps offers customization of their basic products as well for dual voltage operation, special speakers, custom tones, etc.
