Kelly

John Kelly originally worked in the Selmer factory Service/Repair Department.  During the late 1960's, he left Selmer to set up his own valve amp buisness.  His son, also called John, worked in the business, together with one or two other ex-Selmer employees. On the amps, we will get 100 chassis made up and by the time they are sent to the buffer, then the plater, then we bring them back and silk screen them - well, by then they are all jumbled up. We might build serial number 600 before serial number 501. So there is no rhyme or reason to it. And to compound matters, we stopped using serial numbers on amps a few years ago.

Kitchen-Marshall

Kitchen's of Leeds was a large retailer. A side business was fitting out clubs  with PA. Jim Marshall agreed to make gear for Kitchen who insisted that his name must appear on the equipment.  They compromised on the name Kitchen-Marshall brand and made PAs and guitar cabinets for 2 or 3 years.

Kitty Hawk

1980s/1990s.

Kitty Hawk was the German importer of Dumbles (for a short while). The amp chassis were built in the US, and shipped to Germany without transformers or cabinets, and the cabinets and iron were installed in Germany. Kitty Hawk later made some amps of their own design, that appeared to borrow pretty heavily from Dumble and Mesa-Boogie (sometimes both, in the same amp !). The production Kitty Hawks (imported into the US by LPMG) were not Dumble or Mesa based. [Source The Gear Page]

Korg

Originally Keio Electronic Laboratories, founded 1962 by Tsutomu Kato.  Released first product in 1963 - the electro-mechanical rhythm machine - Donca-matic DA-20.  In 1967 Kato collborated with Fumio Mieda to build keyboards. Their prototype programmable organ was named Korg (combo of Keio and Organ).  In 1973 Korg produced their first synthesizer - the MiniKorg.  Yamaha controlled the company from 1987 until Korg bought their stock back in 1993. Krank amp dating

The serial numbers do not generally indicate the date of manufacture.

Most items are dated internally, you'll find a sticker on the end of or inside the chassis with the date of the initial build, a time log of when the amplifier went through the burn in and testing process, and a final test date.
