Pearl

Pearl started building drums in 1950 and in 1961 built a 15,000 sq. foot factory in Chiba, Japan to fill the worldwide demand for drum sets spurred by the popularity of Rock and Roll. These sets were inexpensive and bore the brand name of the distributor; such as Maxwin, CB-700, Crest, Revelle, Revere, Lyra, Majestic, Whitehall, Apollo, Toreador, Roxy, Coronet, and others...over 30 brands in all." JW Pepper

James Welsh Pepper (1853-1919) founded music publishing house in 1876. [Source wikipedia]

"Drums for the J.W. Pepper Company were made by the Soistman Drum Company of Camden, New Jersey.   Even though all of the drums were made by the Soistman Drum Company, these instruments were made according the specifications of the Pepper Company.  Jimmy Pepper felt that the Soistman Company was better at making these instruments than his own.  These instruments were made, and sold between 1876 thru 1910.  The Pepper company was not in business prior to 1876. My father, George A. Folchi, started the company in 1961, but we didn't put out our own brand of drums until the late 1980's. We make them in Pleasant Valley, NY. Premier

Premier Drum Company was founded in 1922 by London drummer Albert Della Porta and drum builder George Smith. At first, they produced kits for wholesalers, who branded them as their own. Name was changed to Premier Percussion in 1984 following a management buyout.

In October 1987, Premier was merged with Yamaha, which owned the Leicester factory until 1992. During this period, Limited was appended to the company name. In 1992, Tony Doughty, who originally arranged the Yamaha merger, took over the company. In February 1995, Premier was sold to the Verity Group of Companies before yet another buyout by a British consortium a few years later. Today, Premier continues to produce drum kits, marching percussion, and symphonic percussion (including timpani and mallet percussion).

In the 2000s, Premier started making drums in Taiwan under the Artists maple and birch series. The Premier series, maple, birch or hydbrid/ gen-x shells are made in England. Distribution in the USA isn't as large as it was in the past. The hardware is made on the same assembly line in Taiwan as Tama's.  [Source: wikipedia]
