Noble and Cooley |
"Noble & Cooley first started in
1854 building marching drums for the Civil War as well as wooden
toy drums. We began making the professional drums we currently
make in the early 1980's (1983 - 1984).
All our drums are American made in the tiny town of Granville,
Massachusetts.
Telling the date of manufacture for our drums is a little
tricky. Our serial numbers are all hand printed on the inside
of our drums. On all drums there is a two digit code followed
be a four digit code. The four digit code is production number
of the particular instrument and the two digit number is the
year. In all drums made prior to 2000 the two digit year was
reversed (eg - a drum built in 1985 was labeled "58"). After
2000 we changed the year to read more normally (eg - a drum
built in 2004 is labeled "04"). So, if the serial number is
something like "CD-1596-89" that would mean that of the CD
series, this drum was the 1596th built and it was completed in
1998.
We recently started a museum in the same location called the "Noble
& Cooley Center for Historic Preservation." [Source:
