Camco

Founded by John Rochon,

Camco drum Co started as a machine shop in Oaklawn Illinois. In 1961 John Rochon purchased a controlling interest in George Way Drum Co (est 1954) which operated its operation at Elkhert, Indiana.  By 1962 all drum manufacture was moved to Oaklawn.  The Oval Oaklawn badge is the end of the production in Illinois. Around 1972 Camco was sold to Kustom and production moved to Chanute, Kansas. A subsequent sale then occurred which moved the company to Los Angeles.   In 1977, Drum Workshop (DW) and Hoshino Gakki (the parent company of Tama Drums) jointly purchased Camco's assets.  [Source: The Great American Drums and the Companies That Made Them, 1920-1969  By Harry Cangany, Rick Van Horn ]

Note I started this Colombo entry with the following photograph only (Left).  Later I was contacted by Pablo who states that this is a Chinese drum set that used the brand with no authorization. It´s not a Colombo drum set.  The kit on the right is a real Colombo kit - from 1975.
