Guitarist gift guide 7 Feb 2010.
|
Here are some low cost gift ideas for someone buying for a guitarist at
Christmas or other special occasion.
A note for the unwary. Some guitar accessory packs include strings. It is important to note that strings are a very personal issue for guitarists. There is a huge range of sizes (thicknesses) and the string coatings change tone dramatically. It is probably to safe to buy more of the type you note your guitarist regularly uses - but ensure you get the exact same string diameters. If your guitarist is just starting out or keen to experiment this is less of an issue.

| A book. Jedistar recommended guitar books including the Vintage Guitar Price Guide which is the best single book available and covers guitars, basses, amplifiers and effects pedals. |

| String change tools. Winders and neck stands make the job much easier. | |
|
Compact tuners. I could quite easily have a separate tuner in each guitar
case. The Seiko keychain version is very cool.

| Guitar pick holders. I use the Dunlop Microphone stand pick holder and it is great. | |
| Pedal board accessories. You can never have enough bits and pieces to play with your pedal board. See my feature on pedal board power supplies. I would approach a power supply as a gift with some caution. Some effects pedals have specific requirements. | |

| Tuners for the guitar case. Headstock tuners are particularly good for acoustic guitars. | |
|
Pedal tuners for stage. I use a Boss TU2. The only negative
issue with it is the LED display is getting harder to see as my eyes get
worse. The Korg's have larger read outs.
